New Fire Hydrant In The GTA?UncategorizedJune 2, 2017There’s a new kind of fire hydrant that will soon be installed along Canadian streets. And they’re going to be radically different in terms of operation and even appearance. In the past, the typical fire hydrant had a conventional cross-like shape, but they had maintenance issues which saddle municipalities with higher costs of repairing and maintaining them. Sigelock Systems LLC, a water works equipment supplier based in the United States, has recently announced it is greenlighting tests for its new Spartan Hydrant in Canada, specifically in Mississauga as they get installed over the summer before being put through rigorous testing in the winter months. Spartan is billed as being safe, innovative, and somewhat aesthetically pleasing to the eye as its more modern look conforms to today’s streetscapes and urban environments. Here’s the video of the Spartan fire hydrant from Sigelock Systems: So be mindful on the streets if you start seeing these colourful, knob like protrusions sticking out on the sides of streets, wondering what they are. And yes, just like the fire hydrants of old, you will still not be allowed to park next to one.
