Toronto Home Resilience Pilot ProgramUncategorizedAugust 1, 2018For most people, a home can be the largest purchase they make. With water damage being the most common reason for claims, homeowners should take extra precautions when it comes to protecting their homes. Recently, with the launch of the Toronto Home Resilience Pilot Program, homeowners can now have their homes checked as part of a flood risk assessment program funded in part by the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and Intact Centre for Climate Adaptation at the University of Waterloo. The Home Resilience Program entails a subsidy of more than $300 for an assessment by AET Group Inc., a Kitchener-based environmental consulting firm that will inspect your home and identify flood risks that your home may face. Common risks can include cracks in the foundations that can lead to water seeping into the basement or sump pump motors that have seized up. Participants in the pilot program only need to pay $95 for an assessment with the remaining costs being subsidized. Homeowners can now take advantage of this to have a professional assess the flood risks associated with your home at a reasonable cost which can potentially reduce the risk of significant water damage to your home and belongings. The program will accept up to 200 participants for the Home Resilience Program and interested homeowners can visit the City of Toronto’s website for more information or here to register online. Once registered, a representative from AET will contact the homeowner to arrange an inspection. Your home and the contents inside are far too precious to leave unprotected. To protect your home and valuables, contact one of our insurance representatives to find out how.
